REFLEXOLOGY TRAINING COURSES
VENUES
Training courses are held in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Leeds. Courses are also held abroad on behalf of the Bayly School by representatives in Australia, Japan, Kenya, Spain and Switzerland (see end of page for addresses of overseas contacts).
COURSE STRUCTURE
The full course can lead to a practitioner's Diploma and from 2003 is made up in Great Britain of attendance at 7 two-day courses (mainly at weekends) involving approximately 100 hours of contact teaching with home study and practice in between the courses. The courses are non residential. The course is made up of 7 two-day modules with Modules 1 and 2 similar to the previous Introductory course run by The Bayly School and Modules 3 to 7 similar to the previous Advanced course. On completion of the full course an examination day may be attended at which a written and a practical test are taken and students successful in these tests are awarded a practitioner's Diploma from the Bayly School of Reflexology.
At all of the courses, there are morning lecture sessions and afternoon practical sessions. For the practical sessions, students are divided into small groups with a personal instructor for each group.
The new course format has been introduced in 2003 to include more detail of topics currently within the course format and also taking into consideration material which is present in the NOS for reflexology which were published in 2002.
COURSE CONTENT
The first two modules of the course teach the theory and principle of the method of reflexology and cover the relationship that exists between the reflex areas of the feet and the different parts of the body. There is a brief introduction to anatomy & physiology and how reflexology may be helpful in the treatment of common disorders. At the practical sessions, the particular type of massage required to obtain the best results when giving Reflexology treatment is taught.
After these parts of the course students should have a basic understanding of reflexology and will have sufficient information to know how to give a reflexology treatment and therefore be able to practise on family and friends.
COURSE DATES 2008
Module 1
March 8th/9th - London
April 5th/6th - Birmingham
May 31st/June 1st - London

June 28th/29th - London
October 11th/12th - London
November 1st/2nd - Edinburgh
Modules 3 to 7 of the course look at the method in considerably more depth and are aimed at those students who wish to train to practise the method as a profession. (The 2008 dates are available from The Bayly School)
At the lectures at these modules of the course the different anatomical systems of the body are considered with a more detailed look at the anatomy and physiology of the system, specific disorders involving the system and how to apply reflexology in the treatment of disorders involving the system.
Also included is information on how to carry out a treatment session, when to treat and when not to treat, reactions to treatment, and advice on how to set up as a reflexology practitioner. There is also a look at the detailed structure of the foot and disorders affecting the foot.
For the practical sessions, the basic technique is expanded on during the course to include pressure variations, additional techniques and the reworking of areas. The use and application of Hand Reflexology is also covered.
CASE WORK
Throughout the course students are required to submit case studies of their Reflexology work and this involves 86 hours of treatments to be completed between the Module 2 course and the Examination Day. Full details of the case studies are given to students at each module of the course. Students also have to complete a short Project between Module 7 and the Examination Day.
EXAMINATION DAY
The 3-hour written paper covers reflexology, anatomy & physiology, different disorders which can affect the body and the application of reflexology to different disorders. The practical assessment involves giving a full reflexology treatment and normally takes place in conjunction with the practical session of a Module 2 course (In 2008 some examination days are in conjunction with the practical session of a Module 3 rather than a Module 2 course).
DURATION OF COURSE
The average length of the training course before obtaining a Diploma will be approximately one year. With a number of courses available throughout the year, students do not have to attend set dates but can choose the dates on offer which are most convenient for them. Students need not attend all the modules of the course at the same venues.
There is a minimum interval required between modules of at least 6 weeks, except for between Modules 1 and 2 when there will be a shorter interval, and this allows students time for study and practice and in particular to complete the necessary case work. For those students with no prior knowledge of anatomy and physiology more home study will be required.
Between modules, students may contact the Bayly School for assistance required in connection with course work.
APPLICATIONS
Application forms for the courses indicating the dates of the various modules and the present course fees are available from The Bayly School of Reflexology. (Please telephone for full details or send an e-mail with your name and postal address). No prior qualifications are required when applying for a course but it should be remembered that the course contains a considerable amount of theory work in addition to practical work. A minimum age of 18 years is required of students.
FEES
On application for each module of the course, the full fee for that module will be payable. For 2008, the fee for each module is £172.77 + VAT.
Learning & Skills Council Career Development Loans are available for Bayly School courses. Details from 0800-585505 or www.lifelonglearning.co.uk
