Voluntary Complementary Therapists - Barts Health NHS Trust (March 2022)

Barts Health NHS Trust in London is looking for complementary therapists practising massage therapy, reflexology, shiatsu or aromatherapy, who are willing to volunteer their time within the NHS.

The post is voluntary, however, in exchange for working in our outpatient and inpatient clinics you will:

- gain extensive experience of working with NHS patients

- gain experience working with an NHS multi-disciplinary team

- have full access to certificated CPD and other training free of charge

- receive in-house supervision via case conferences.

The posts will be based either at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone or St Bartholomew's Hospital in the City of London.

Voluntary Complementary Therapists - The Mulberry Centre (March 2022)

The Mulberry Centre, based in the grounds of the West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth, Hounslow is an awarding winning charity delivering a range of information and support services to anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer. This includes patients and their main carers/supporters as well as those bereaved by cancer.

We have rewarding volunteering opportunities for Massage Therapists, Reflexologists, and Aromatherapists in South West London who are available for two to three hours a week to provide care for cancer patients at the centre

Voluntary Complementary Therapists and Wellbeing Practitioners – University College Hospital, London (Dec 2021)

UCL Hospital charity has an exciting new complementary health initiative to support staff wellbeing as part of the Covid recovery strategy. The 'Staff Spa' has delivered over 1,000 complementary therapy treatments provided by qualified volunteer therapists who donate 3 hours a week to the service. Staff say it makes them feel valued and helps them engage in self-care.  Therapists have found it a valuable professional and personal experience.

Voluntary Reflexologists  – Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre (Nov 2021)

The Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre (https://www.olivetreecancersupport.org.uk/) based in Crawley and Horsham, West Sussex, is a charity offering support to everyone affected by cancer.

They are in need of volunteer massage therapists and reflexologists. If you are available for a couple of hours a week or even fortnightly to deliver some holistic therapies to their cancer clients, you can get in touch to discuss opportunities. Voluntary Complementary Therapist  – Enable  Substance Misuse Service, Enfield (May 2021)

Enable is a Substance Misuse Service which is run in partnership with the NHS & Humankind. The team operates from 2 sites in Enfield to provide a wide range of substance misuse services to local residents including, substitute prescribing, community detox, criminal justice interventions, community care assessments, a comprehensive group work programme, primary health care as well as a wide range of other interventions to non-opiate and alcohol users.  

We are looking for therapists who are qualified in or nearing the end of a substantial training in at least one of the following therapies or similar:

  • Massage

  • Shiatsu

  • Reflexology

  • Mindfulness / Relaxation group work

  • Yoga

  • Acupuncture

Whilst there is no financial remuneration, we do ask therapists to see it as an extension of CPD, an opportunity to develop professional expertise whilst helping some of the most vulnerable members of society.

You will need:

  • A recognised qualification in a complimentary therapy

  • A confident and friendly approach

  • Basic IT skills ·

  • An understanding of the importance of guidelines and procedures relating to key areas such as safeguarding and information governance

  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check if required for the role

  • To provide references & qualifications

  • A respectful and non-judgemental manner 

  • Willingness to attend and complete relevant training 

  • Willingness to attend regular supervision sessions with your supervisor
