Lecture Synopsis
What if an overlooked set of reflexes could offer new ways of supporting clients experiencing conditions such as PTSD, migraines, hot flashes, Long Covid, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), essential hypertension and other challenging health concerns?
In this thought-provoking presentation, award-winning educator and researcher Linda Frank will share her fascinating exploration of a biological process that appears to play a significant role in a variety of neurological, endocrine, immune and stress-related conditions. Drawing on research from both conventional medicine and reflexology, Linda will explain how this phenomenon is currently being addressed within mainstream healthcare and how reflexologists may be able to work with corresponding reflexes to support the body's natural regulatory processes.
Attendees will gain insight into the remarkable interaction between the nervous, endocrine, immune and psychological systems—sometimes referred to as the Psycho-Neuro-Endocrine-Immune (PNEI) network—and how disturbances within these interconnected systems can contribute to chronic symptoms and dysregulation. Linda will discuss the journey that led to the identification of these novel reflexes, the theory behind their potential significance, and practical ways reflexologists may incorporate them into clinical practice.
The session will include:
-
An introduction to the biological process underlying these newly identified reflexes.
-
The connection between stress, trauma, inflammation and nervous system regulation.
-
Current medical approaches to addressing this phenomenon.
-
Practical guidance on locating and working with these novel reflexes.
-
Suggestions for integrating them alongside more familiar reflexology techniques.
-
Discussion of their potential relevance for a range of complex and chronic health conditions.
This lecture promises to challenge conventional thinking, stimulate professional curiosity and provide practitioners with exciting new ideas that may enhance their therapeutic toolkit. Whether you are a seasoned reflexologist or simply interested in the evolving science behind reflexology, Linda's engaging and research-informed presentation is sure to leave you with fresh insights and plenty to consider.
